Mission
The CALS Alumni Association promotes fellowship and leadership among alumni, students, and faculty and advances the teaching, research, and extension functions of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University.

The Association focuses on providing lifelong learning, networking, and engagement activities for alumni, students, and friends of CALS. Additional foci include highlighting alumni success stories, showcasing CALS academic priorities, and recruiting the best and brightest prospective students.

There are many opportunities to be more involved with the CALS Alumni Association, CALS, and Cornell. The involvement opportunities chart contains more detailed information and ideas on how to become more engaged in the Cornell community.

The Alumni Association has a long history, and its success depends on the dedicated, thoughtful volunteers that carry on a legacy of excellence.

Mission
The Advisory Council for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences serves as an outside advisory group to the Dean of the college. Members shall provide counsel and advice concerning programs in teaching, research and extension for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The council will represent the variety of constituencies and stakeholders with whom the college, through its programs, should interact. Those constituencies and stakeholders include current and future students, alumni, the state of New York, the agricultural community in New York State, lawmakers, other educational institutions and the broader interests of scholarship and research serving the state of New York, the nation and the world.

The Advisory Council shall provide avenues by which advice and expertise can be brought to bear on strategic issues the college faces, and serve as a two-way communication channel providing advice and counsel on those issues which the Dean brings to the council, and bringing issues and concerns

The Department of Communication is a national leader in the study of communication as a social science, ranked among the top five in a recent poll by the National Research Council. Our faculty and students are dedicated to understanding the role and enhancing the effectiveness of communication processes, systems, and infrastructure in society.

We explore communication in its many forms and contexts as a fundamentally social phenomenon. Our faculty members are recognized for developing and applying novel theoretical perspectives to the most pressing social and policy issues of the day.

The Arts and Sciences Advisory Council is one of the eight original advisory bodies established by the Cornell Board of Trustees in 1962 with the original charge to advise and counsel the dean on broad matters of policy and planning within the college. The Council is made up of alumni leaders, parents, and friends. Members currently have four main roles: as advisors, advocates, ambassadors, and philanthropic supporters of the college and its mission: to provide a foundation in the liberal arts for all Cornell students and, within the College, to foster the intellectual curiosity that drives outstanding research, scholarship, and teaching in the liberal arts.

Veterinary Medicine (VET) Advisory Council Vision and Mission

Today, veterinary medicine is poised to help the world respond to some of its most pressing challenges. The college's vision is to lead, enable, and inspire others to attain a healthier world for animals and people. We are dedicated to the creation, dissemination, and implementation of scientific knowledge to improve the health and well-being of animals and people. As a New York land-grant college, we achieve regional and global impact through education, discovery and care.

Purpose and Values
The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine Advisory Council serves as an advisory group to the Dean of the College to help fulfill and implement the college's mission and strategic objectives while striving to provide members with gratifying opportunities to engage with and impact the college, and by extension, Cornell University as a whole. The council shares the college's values of commitment to veterinary medicine and education, equity and diversity, collaboration and two-way communication, innovation, intellectual curiosity, and an expectation of excellence.

At-large Membership
At-large members are alumni and friends who offer professional expertise and meaningful guidance, leverage personal and/or professional networks, and commit to supporting the college philanthropically at a level commensurate with each members' means. At-large members may serve up to three, two- year terms, for a maximum of six consecutive years. Members serving the maximum number of terms will become eligible for reappointment to the council following a one-year hiatus. In special circumstances, the hiatus and maximum number of terms may be waived upon mutual agreement between the dean and the member. A member holding a leadership position on the council may be eligible for an extension of his or her term on a year-to-year basis in order to fulfill leadership responsibilities or at the request of the dean.

Member Expectations
1. Attend council meetings and other college events when possible.
2. Offer professional expertise, guidance and feedback on issues identified by the dean and
other college leadership.
3. Leverage personal and/or professional networks to promote the college and broaden its base
of support.
4. Make a financial gift annually at a level commensurate with members' means. Council members are asked to consider annual contributions at $5,000 or one of the following giving
society levels: Dean's Circle ($10,000); President's Circle ($25,000); Founder's Circle
($50,000), or Ezra Cornell Circle ($100,000).
5. Identify and nominate candidates for consideration for Advisory Council or other Cornell volunteer service, assist in the identification and cultivation of prospective
donors, and/or advocate on behalf of the college for support.
6. Serve as an advocate for the college and related professions within the university and
in external communities.
7. Assist the college in meeting its strategic goals, as appropriate.
8. Participate in committee activities where appropriate and when possible.

The Cornell Institute of Food Science (CIFS) is a multidisciplinary program that coordinates activities related to food science and food technology at Cornell University. Through its teaching, research and outreach programs, the faculty of the Institute provide education and training for students, conduct basic and applied research and offer technical information and assistance to the food industry.

Founded in 1970, the institute is a world leader in food science education and research. The program currently includes about sixty faculty and staff members from eight departments and institutes.

The Cornell Institute of Food Science is an educational institute whose mission is to educate undergraduate and graduate students for careers in the food industry, academia, and government; to promote and facilitate research programs that will enhance the wholesomeness and availability of food and add value to raw agricultural products, with a particular emphasis on New York State products; and to transfer research-based information and technology to consumers and the food systems of New York State, the nation, and the world.

Since its founding in 1887, Cornell Law School has fostered a commitment to public service. Scores of our graduates have emerged as leaders in social justice movements, legal aid, the judiciary, and government practice. The Cornell Law School Public Sector Alumni Network (CLS PSAN) is dedicated to assisting current students and alumni who seek to incorporate public service into their legal careers. Whether a student seeking a summer job, a pro bono opportunity, an externship during the academic year, or an entry-level position after graduation, or an alumnus ready to take a different path toward Public Service work, or currently serving in a Public Service position and seeking networking opportunities, the CLS PSAN can assist by:
- fostering engagement and networking opportunities
- mentoring Cornell Law School students
- being a resource to Cornell Law School alumni who are seeking a career path into public service work.
- promoting fundraising efforts for the Law School that will impact the work of the Public Interest Office

• to foster and maintain a close association between Cornell Law School (“CLS”) and its alumni;

The Cornell Law School Dean's Advisory Council brings together invited alumni and friends of the Law School for the purpose of keeping each member informed about the state of the school, and to receive advice and counsel with the following functions in mind:

EDUCATION – Faculty, students, and administrators, respectively, offer presentations on issues that are salient at the Law School.

INTERACTION – The Council has opportunities to meet with members of the faculty and students in settings that promote a free flow of information among all participants.

CRITICAL COMMENT AND INPUT – The Dean, faculty, and administrators specifically seek advice and guidance during Advisory Council meetings and throughout the year with regard to salient matters. We also seek counsel on the entire array of programs and activities in which the Law School is, or should be, involved. These areas include admissions, alumni and development, curriculum, hiring, and placement of recent graduates.

The Cornell Law School Equity and Inclusion Alumni Leadership Council (CLS EI ALC) aims to model the reality of human diversity and the practice of equity and inclusion to the Cornell community, particularly to the faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends of Cornell Law School; and will foreground interests and concerns related to diversity, equity, and inclusion to the Dean of the Law School and members of the Law School Dean’s Advisory Council. As Cornell Law School alumni working variously in private and public legal practice, members of the CLS EI ALC will offer advice and guidance on legal education and the practice of law with respect to:

Diversity – a recognition that individuals differ in various ways, and a respectful tolerance of those differences that is civil, courteous, thoughtful, and humane. Human diversity occurs among individuals as well as among “identity” groups in terms of race, ethnicity, gender, age, national origin, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic status, education, marital status, language, and physical appearance. Our definition also includes diversity of thought: ideas, perspectives, and values.

Equity – the fair treatment of every person, particularly in terms of affording everyone equal access to roles and positions for which s/he/they qualify on the criteria of ability, and equal opportunity to thrive in those roles and to advance beyond them. Equity also means identifying and eliminating barriers that have prevented, and continue to prevent, the full participation of some persons and/or groups. Improving equity involves increasing justice and fairness within the procedures and processes of institutions or systems, as well as in their distribution of resources.
